Taylor Prep's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over FJA.
The result came thanks to Jacob Odziana's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 16 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kale Harris, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Jason Cole was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Lutheran made easy work of Whitmore Lake on Thursday and carried off a 17-5 victory.
Gibson Stockman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Stockman was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Joey Hollyer was incredible, firing off three home runs, ten RBI, and five runs while going 4-for-4. Those ten RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Baltz, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base.
Lutheran always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whitmore Lake only posted an OBP of .444.
Taylor Prep's win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Lutheran, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Taylor Prep has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .521. However, it's not like Lutheran struggles in that department as they've averaged .506. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
