The Brighton Cardinals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They fell 47-40 to Covington. Brighton lost against Covington in their previous head to head back in February of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 66-30 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Brighton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Destiny Pruitt. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Maclin, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Brighton has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Covington, their win bumped their record up to 4-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brighton will take on Craigmont at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Tennessee (Craigmont is ranked 330th, while Brighton is ranked 340th). As for Covington, they will head out on the road to face off against Raleigh-Egypt at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Raleigh-Egypt is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
