It was a good run, but the Wootton Patriots unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to Walter Johnson. Wootton was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Walter Johnson apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Walter Johnson found their leader in underclassman Norah Youssef, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for her. Elizabeth Martin was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five steals.
Wootton's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Walter Johnson, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Wootton will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bethesda-Chevy Chase at 7:15 p.m. on January 5, 2024. One thing working in Bethesda-Chevy Chase's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests. Walter Johnson will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Marriotts Ridge at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Marriotts Ridge is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home.
