The Gibbs Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Powell Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Gibbs will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Gibbs is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Tennessee's top teams: Farragut, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Gibbs was ranked third). The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over the Admirals on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.

Lacey Keck spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Skylynne Luttrell, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Malyiah Smith was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Powell made sure to put some runs up on the board against Carter on Monday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Green Hornets with a sharp 12-1 win. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by seven runs or more this season.
Powell also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Langston Coggins gave up only one earned run on three hits.
At the plate, Rianna Boone was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Lizzi Lowe also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triples of the season.
Powell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carter only posted a batting average of .125.
Powell's victory was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Gibbs, their victory bumped their record up to 29-3.
Gibbs skirted past Powell 3-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
