River Valley is 9-1 against Wellston since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The River Valley Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Wellston Golden Rockets at 7:30 p.m. River Valley is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last nine games.
Last Monday, River Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Meigs, taking the game 62-52. Given River Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 181st, while Meigs is ranked 564th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Wellston came up short against Alexander on Monday and fell 49-36. Wellston has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
River Valley's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Wellston, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.
River Valley beat Wellston 64-51 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for River Valley since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
