St. Michael-Albertville is 8-2 against Brainerd since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Knights will head out to face off against the Warriors at 11:00 a.m. St. Michael-Albertville's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Brainerd's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
St. Michael-Albertville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Minnesota's top teams: Minnetonka, who was ranked 21st at the time (St. Michael-Albertville was ranked 23rd). The Knights skirted past the Skippers 4-3.
St. Michael-Albertville got a great performance from Lincoln Rick as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Rick has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Taylan Siens, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI. Ryan Kurth also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brainerd). They walked away with a 13-8 victory over Detroit Lakes on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Warriors with their most commanding win of the season.
Drew Herkenhoff was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Cooper Schenck was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
The win made it two in a row for Brainerd and bumps their season record up to 4-7-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for St. Michael-Albertville, their record is now 9-2.
St. Michael-Albertville beat Brainerd 5-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
