Softball Recap: Athens Wins Going Away Against Madison Academy

Athens barely beat Madison Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Golden Eagles put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 9-1 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won ten games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Jaicey Harty spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lily Lowery, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Caitlyn Tedford, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

With the win, Athens broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 17-9. As for Madison Academy, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 19-4 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens will be taking part in a tournament against Scottsboro at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Madison Academy, they will challenge Elkmont at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
