Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 19 to 3 on the offensive boards, a fact the Gulf Buccaneers proved on Friday. They blew past Pasco 51-12 at home. With Gulf ahead 35-6 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Gulf found their leader in underclassman Tajinae Bonney, who scored 17 points along with six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bonney has scored all season. Tazaria Bankston was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Pasco saw an underclassman step up: Maniyah Stephens scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Gulf's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.2 points per game. As for Pasco, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Gulf will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Hudson at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Hudson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 44 on Thursday. As for Pasco, they will head out on the road to face off against Cypress Creek at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cypress Creek is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
