The Founders Classical Academy Archers waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against KIPP Austin Collegiate by a score of 38-29. The score was all tied up 11-11 at the break, but Founders Classical Academy was the better team in the second half.
Leading Founders Classical Academy to victory were Elena Cid and Mary Tavarez. Cid scored seven points along with eight rebounds, while Tavarez dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Tavarez has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Buterbaugh, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kendal Martin, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Martin is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Genesis Robles, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Founders Classical Academy now has a winning record of 10-9. As for KIPP Austin Collegiate, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Founders Classical Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Grace Academy at 1:30 p.m. on January 20th. Grace Academy is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road. As for KIPP Austin Collegiate, they will be playing in front of their home fans against IDEA Parmer Park at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. IDEA Parmer Park comes in on a streak of failing to score more than two points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
