The Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions will be home for the holidays to greet the O'Connor Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mountain Ridge has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while O'Connor will arrive with three straight wins.
Last Wednesday, Mountain Ridge had to suffer through a rough 66-39 loss at the hands of Sunnyslope. Mountain Ridge has not had much luck with Sunnyslope recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Vikram Thevar, who scored nine points.
O'Connor has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 29 points or more this season. They really took it to Camelback for the full four quarters, racking up a 74-45 win on the road. Given O'Connor's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Camelback is ranked 135th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mountain Ridge has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for O'Connor, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
Mountain Ridge came up short against O'Connor in their previous matchup back in January, falling 70-57. Can Mountain Ridge avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
