Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 16 to 7 on the offensive boards, a fact the Poudre Impalas proved on Thursday. They escaped with a win against Broomfield by the margin of a single free throw, 36-35. The win made it back-to-back wins for Poudre.
Poudre was led to victory by Kavi Voglund and Maggie Foster. Voglund scored 15 points along with seven rebounds, while Foster dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Voglund has scored at least a third of Poudre's points.
Broomfield's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sydney Deem, who scored six points along with six rebounds and four steals. Deem is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Kayleigh Jones was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Poudre has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. As for Broomfield, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Poudre will take on Erie at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Erie presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Poudre in Colorado (Erie is ranked 27th, while Poudre is ranked 101st). As for Broomfield, they will head out on the road to square off against Legacy at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Legacy is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
