Hampshire has gone a perfect 5-0 against Conant recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Whip-Purs will host the Cougars at 10:00 a.m. Hampshire will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Hampshire will bounce into Saturday's match after beating Central, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Whip-Purs never let the Rockets get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Whip-Purs, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Wilson Wemhoff made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Wemhoff wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Shane Pfeiffer, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and four RBI.
Rolling Meadows typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Conant proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 3-0 win over the Mustangs. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won five in a row.
Not much got past Alex Martinez, who gave up just six hits and racked up six Ks to keep Rolling Meadows off the board. Martinez also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Conant is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 9-13-1 otherwise.
Conant hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Hampshire's win bumped their record up to 22-7. As for Conant, their victory bumped their record up to 12-14-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Hampshire has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Conant struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Hampshire's way against Conant when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Hampshire made off with a 12-1 win. Do the Whip-Purs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
