It was a good run, but the South Pontotoc Cougars unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 58-51 to New Albany. South Pontotoc was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played last Thursday.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead New Albany to victory, but perhaps none more so than Braden Shettles, who scored 18 points along with two steals. Shettles hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Issac Gilbert, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.
South Pontotoc's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-7. As for New Albany, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-8.
South Pontotoc and the Wildcats will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Houlka is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for New Albany, they will head out on the road to challenge the Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Mississippi (Ingomar is ranked 78th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 80th).
