Mount Airy (N.C.) kept up a steady attack all game long to defeat
South Stokes (Walnut Cove, N.C.), 35-13, on Saturday.
The Bears were up 14-7 at the half after taking the lead on a defensive touchdown in the second quarter.
Mount Airy expanded its lead to 21 points entering the fourth quarter. MA scored two times in the third, including once on a passing touchdown.
With the win the Bears extended their winning streak to nine games. Mount Airy defeated the Villains 31-12 last week.
Austin Taylor was the top performer for MA. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
Jacquan Martin made a difference for the Sauras. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 26 touchdowns on the season.
The Bears had given up an average of 9.7 points prior to the contest. The 13 points that South Stokes ended with were well below its average of 33.3 coming into the game. SS came in giving up 13.3 points per game this season. The Walnut Cove school struggled against Mount Airy, which came in averaging 24.9 points per game.
MA got revenge for last year's 28-17 loss to the Sauras with the victory.
The loss comes after South Stokes defeated West Stokes 35-9 last week. The loss snapped South Stokes' 2-game winning streak.
Mount Airy (9-1) will play a 2A/1A Northwest game against East Surry next week, while South Stokes (7-2) will take on Surry Central also in a 2A/1A Northwest game.
