5A Region IV District 25 recap Nov. 7, 2012
Canyon moved up to 396 from 436 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region IV District 25. The Cougars were able to make move up by falling to Judson 42-34.
Smithson Valley extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating New Braunfels, 42-27. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Rangers.
San Marcos' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rattlers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Zack Sterling has thrown for 464 yards and three touchdowns this season, while Brandon Matlock has six catches for 196 yards. Jonoah Fabian leads the league in rushing with 609 yards.
The top two teams in 5A Region IV District 25 will face off this week when first place Smithson Valley takes on second place Wagner. Last week, Smithson Valley bested the Unicorns, while Wagner beat San Marcos.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Larry Hill's team takes on the Thunderbirds. The Rangers have allowed 131 points this season, while Wagner has given up 159. Smithson Valley allowed 27 points last week as it bested New Braunfels.
Pete Gibbens' team took down the Rattlers 84-3 last week, the largest margin of any game.
