If the Elkhart Lions were riding high off their 61-18 takedown of the West Noble Chargers last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Elkhart took a 60-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eastern Hancock on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Elkhart can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Eastern Hancock is ranked 33rd).
Leading Eastern Hancock to victory were McKenzie Koch and Ruby White. Koch scored 22 points, while White scored 14 points along with four blocks. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Koch has scored at least 25% of Eastern Hancock's points. Sammie Bolding was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Elkhart's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Eastern Hancock, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 14-0.
Elkhart will play host again and welcome South Bend Riley, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Bend Riley has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 4. Eastern Hancock will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Lawrence North at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday. Lawrence North knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Eastern Hancock likes a good challenge.
