The Freeman Scotties scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 74-24 blowout they got at home against Newport. With that win, Freeman brought their scoring average up to 50.4 points per game.
Freeman found their leader in underclassman Taylee Phelps, who scored 34 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Phelps has scored all season. Avery Boswell was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.
Freeman's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Newport, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-8.
Freeman will be playing in front of their home fans against Riverside at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverside will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while Freeman is ranked 97th). As for Newport, they will head out on the road to square off against Selkirk at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
