The Washington Rams will challenge the La Joya Community Fighting Lobos at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Washington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Washington couldn't beat Sierra Linda on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the fifth inning. The Rams fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 9-8.
Troy Kenyon was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
In other batting news, Liam Bunstein was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. That double was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ta'Lon Heron, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after a string of eight wins, La Joya Community's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Copper Canyon by a score of 11-10.
Dominik Garcia and Efren Bolanos did some serious damage despite the final result: Garcia went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Bolanos went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Darian Aguirre was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
La Joya Community's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 15-6. As for Washington, they dropped their record down to 6-8 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Washington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like La Joya Community struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
