There's no place like home for the Walnut Mustangs, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They walked away with a 66-55 victory over Wilson on Thursday. Given Walnut's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while Wilson is ranked 615th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Walnut's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cory Fluker led the charge by dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Fluker continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Isaiah Leon was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Wilson saw an underclassman step up: Justin Kayode scored 23 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Lin, who scored eight points.
Walnut pushed their record up to 17-8 with that win, which was their 11th straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.7 points per game. As for Wilson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-12.
Walnut will head out on the road to challenge Diamond Bar at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Diamond Bar is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games. As for Wilson, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Los Altos at 6:30 p.m. Los Altos has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 885 points over their last 12 games.
