Basketball Recap: Navajo Prep Skates Past Zuni with Ease

It was a Battle of the Birds when Navajo Prep took on Zuni on Wednesday. The Navajo Prep Eagles took their contest with ease, bagging a 77-42 victory over the Zuni Thunderbirds. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 21 points or more this season.

When it comes to explaining why Zuni lost, don't look at Ty'Shawn Nieto. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 13 boards. The dominant performance also gave Nieto a new career-high in steals (four). Nathan Simplicio was another key player, putting up seven points and eight rebounds.

Navajo Prep has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.3 points over those games. As for Zuni, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season.

Navajo Prep wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 81-39 win against Wingate on the 14th. As for Zuni, they have also already played their next matchup, a 52-51 victory against Crownpoint on the 14th.
