Middletown has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Mason Comets at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Middletown will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 396th, while Mason is ranked tenth).
Middletown suffered their biggest loss since December 6, 2023 on Saturday. They suffered a tough 51-25 defeat at the hands of Lakota East. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Middletown has suffered against Lakota East since December 16, 2020.
Meanwhile, Mason entered their tilt with Belleville with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Everything went Mason's way against Belleville on Monday as Mason made off with a 49-28 victory. Mason has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 20 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mason to victory, but perhaps none more so than Riley Yost, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Yost continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Madison Parrish, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Middletown's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-10. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.7 points per game. As for Mason, their victory bumped their record up to 12-2.
Middletown took a serious blow against Mason when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 63-36. Can Middletown avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
