The Morehead Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the McMichael Phoenix at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Morehead came into this matchup off a tough ten-run defeat two weeks ago. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Walkertown by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Saillie Aheron spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, McMichael entered their tilt with Walkertown on Wednesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Wolfpack 13-5. Considering the Phoenix have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Lindsay Redmon made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Redmon was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Samantha Hopson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Olivia Wilson, who went 1-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
McMichael kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Walkertown only managed eight hits.
McMichael's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Morehead, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11.
Morehead suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to McMichael when the teams last played back in March. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
