Volleyball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Coral Park's Winning Streak

Coral Park lost against Mater Academy Charter back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Rams took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions. The Rams' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Athena Sanchez paced Coral Park's offense, picking up three kills. Sanchez got some help from Layla Heaven and her two assists. Heaven was also a major player on defense: she and Aaliyah Soto shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with two each.

Mater Academy Charter found their leader in sophomore JAYLA DELGADO, who had five aces.

Coral Park's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Mater Academy Charter, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coral Park will face off against Hialeah at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mater Academy Charter, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Sports Leadership & Management at 6:00 p.m. on October 1.
