Wilton has gone a perfect 5-0 against Stamford recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wilton has seven straight victories, Stamford has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Wilton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Staples, who was ranked seventh at the time (Wilton was ranked ninth). The Warriors blew past the Wreckers 41-7 last Friday. With the Warriors ahead 21-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Charlie Calabrese had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 129 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 152 yards on 11 of 17 attempts.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wilton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 244 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 173 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Wilton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Nicholas Mercado and Michael Duarte.
Meanwhile, Stamford played a tough matchup last Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 31-8 to Warde.
Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed six in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Lucas Simmons, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Stamford's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Wilton, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Wilton has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 378 total yards per game. It's a different story for Stamford, though, as they've been averaging only 217.6 total yards. Will Wilton be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Black Knights flip the script?
Everything came up roses for Wilton against Stamford when the teams last played back in November of 2019, as the squad secured a 42-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
