Huntington Beach is 1-9 against the Breakers since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Huntington Beach Oilers will head out on the road to take on the Laguna Beach Breakers at 7:00 p.m. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with ten consecutive losses for Huntington Beach and four for the Breakers.
Last Tuesday, Huntington Beach came up short against the Vikings and fell 51-43. Huntington Beach has struggled against the Vikings recently, as their game on Tuesday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Laguna Beach also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to the Sea Kings by a score of 55-44. While losing is never fun, Laguna Beach can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while the Sea Kings are ranked 69th).
Despite the loss, Laguna Beach got a solid performance out of Dylan McEachern, who scored 18 points. McEachern has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last five times he's played.
Huntington Beach's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 14-13. As for Laguna Beach, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-15 record this season.
Huntington Beach couldn't quite finish off the Breakers in their previous matchup back in January and fell 64-62. Can Huntington Beach avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
