The New Castle Trojans will venture away from home to square off against the Centerville Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. New Castle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.
New Castle fell victim to Shelbyville and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Golden Bears. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Trojans were not able to get on the board.
Kattie Mathews was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Centerville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Delta with a sharp 13-2 victory on Thursday.
Aubrey Seifer was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Seifer was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lilly Day was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Mykilah Pamplin also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.
Centerville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .560. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Centerville's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for New Castle, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.
Both New Castle and Centerville just can't seem to miss. The Trojans have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Centerville struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
New Castle might still be hurting after the 17-10 loss they got from Centerville when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
