Despite their defeat, Calhoun County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Takara Brown, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Raniya Tyler was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Blackville-Hilda suffered a tough 46-26 loss at the hands of the Blue Devils on Tuesday. Blackville-Hilda has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Blackville-Hilda had strong showings from Breyanna Williams, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Amonya Smalls, who scored a point. Williams is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Calhoun County's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7. As for Blackville-Hilda, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Calhoun County have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Blackville-Hilda struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Calhoun County took their win against the Fighting Hawks in their previous matchup back in January by a conclusive 40-19. The rematch might be a little tougher for Calhoun County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
