Baseball Recap: Monday's Win Is Gateway's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Gateway lost to Cape Coral two weeks ago, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. Gateway never let Cape Coral get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. Considering the Eagles have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Gateway got a great performance from Hunter Squire as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Squire has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jacob Hardman was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Anthony Herrera also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Gateway was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cape Coral only posted a batting average of .118.

Gateway is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. Cape Coral dropped their record down to 5-10 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gateway will venture away from home to square off against Dunbar at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dunbar has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19 runs per game on average), something Gateway will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cape Coral, they will head out to face off against Aubrey Rogers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Aubrey Rogers will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Cape Coral surely won't give up without a fight.
