Basketball Recap: Ethan Kayenda's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Arizona Lutheran Academy over Pima

If Arizona Lutheran Academy was feeling good fresh off their 69-34 takedown of Veritas Prep last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Arizona Lutheran Academy Coyotes fell to the Pima Roughriders 40-34. The Coyotes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Roughriders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Arizona Lutheran Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Kayenda, who posted 13 points. Those 13 points gave Kayenda a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Childers, who had six points in addition to six steals and five rebounds.

Arizona Lutheran Academy's record is now 14-7. As for Pima, they are on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 18 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-3 record this season.

Arizona Lutheran Academy and Pima should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings. Arizona Lutheran Academy (ranked 111th) will meet ALA - Anthem South (ranked 333rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Arizona Lutheran Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Pima will square off against Lincoln Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 191 places (73 vs. 264).
