MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Linganore (Frederick, Md.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 5 in Maryland, but was stunned by
Middletown (Md.), 42-7. Middletown was ranked at No. 7 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Maryland coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run in the second quarter, the Knights led 29-6 at the half.
Middletown expanded its lead to 37 points entering the fourth quarter. MHS scored two times in the third, including once on a
Brad Rinehart touchdown run.
The loss snapped Linganore's eight-game winning streak.
Linganore's lone touchdown came on a 66-yard run in the first quarter.
The Lancers came in surrendering 11.5 points per game this season. Linganore struggled against Middletown's offense, who entered the game scoring 38.5 points per game. Middletown came into the game allowing 6.0 points per game.
A 36-7 Middletown victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The loss comes after Linganore defeated Tuscarora 42-7 last week.
In a Monocacy Valley - Piedmont game next week Middletown (9-0) takes on Oakdale, and Linganore (8-1) will go up against Urbana also in a Monocacy Valley - Piedmont game.
