Jefferson is 0-6 against Woodgrove since March of 2017 but things could change on Thursday. The Cougars will head out to face off against the Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Jefferson is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Spring Mills, who was ranked 24th at the time (Jefferson was ranked fourth). The Cougars put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 9-1 victory on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Jersey Rummel made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Chloe Cowan was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Parker Hozhabri also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Jefferson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .409 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Woodgrove never got on the board in their matchup on April 4th, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Riverside on April 8th. They were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over the Ram. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Ram recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Like Jefferson, Woodgrove also got a great game from a two-way player: Danielle Plazyk. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Plazyk was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Faith Barker was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Grace Anderson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.
Jefferson's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Woodgrove, their record is now 7-2.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jefferson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Woodgrove struggles in that department as they've averaged .433. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jefferson suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Woodgrove in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
