The Carlsbad Lancers will face off against the La Costa Canyon Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Carlsbad will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
While Carlsbad's win against San Marcos wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lancers skirted past the Knights 31-28. 31 seems to be a good number for the Lancers as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Carlsbad's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Darian Webb, who rushed for 80 yards and one TD, and also picked up 58 receiving yards and one score. Those 80 rushing yards gave Webb a new career-high. Eli MacNeal was another key passer, throwing for 233 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Carlsbad was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 238 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 205 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, La Costa Canyon made easy work of El Camino on Friday and carried off a 36-14 victory. The Mavericks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by 21 points or more this season.
La Costa Canyon's win came from a few key players Carlsbad will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Quinn Roth, who threw for 268 yards and four TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes. He is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last four games he's played. Coby Herman helped Roth out on the ground, rushing for 75 yards and one score on only eight carries, while also catching one touchdown.
Carlsbad's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for La Costa Canyon, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Carlsbad has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 181.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like La Costa Canyon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 180.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Carlsbad came up short against La Costa Canyon in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 21-11. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Roth, who threw for 215 yards and three TDs while completing 80% of his passes.
