Baseball Recap: Belfry Gets the Win

Belfry won against East Ridge last Monday with 14 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Belfry Pirates never let the Betsy Layne Bobcats get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The Pirates have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bobcats, too.

Chase Varney made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Varney was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Eli Jones looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on David Michael Hagy, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5. Steven Vipperman was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one RBI.

Belfry's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Betsy Layne, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Belfry will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Martin County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Betsy Layne, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Betsy Layne Bobcats challenge Cordia Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
