The Santaluces Chiefs's five-game losing streak came to an end on Wednesday. They secured a 26-20 W over West Boca Raton. This was payback for Santaluces, who suffered a 52-50 loss the last time these two teams met.
Santaluces found their leader in underclassman Makaylah Wayde, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Wayde is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lyiah Gaitor, who scored three points along with 11 rebounds and six blocks.
Santaluces' victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for West Boca Raton, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santaluces on the road again on Friday and play against Grandview Prep at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Grandview Prep is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. West Boca Raton won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Park Vista at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th.
