Westwood Christian is 0-6 against Corinth Christian Academy since November of 2021 but things could change on Monday. Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Tripp Kirkland, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 17 boards. The game was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. Avery Thomas was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Westwood Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Corinth Christian Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 57-51 to Cornerstone Academy. While the Warriors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cougars 16-12 in the first quarter.
Like Westwood Christian, Corinth Christian Academy lost despite seeing results from several players. Alden Hughes led the charge by putting up 12 points in addition to five assists and three steals. Hughes has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Cason Amerson, who posted 13 points and five boards.
Corinth Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Westwood Christian, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Westwood Christian has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 46 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Corinth Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.4 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Westwood Christian came up short against Corinth Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 50-46. Can Westwood Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
