The Chipley Tigers will challenge the Jay Royals at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Chipley took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Vernon an 18-0 shutout.
Ty Gray was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Godwin, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.
Chipley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vernon only posted an OBP of .133.
Jay came out on top against L.E.A.D. Academy on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run fourth inning. The Royals were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Lions. The Royals haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Bryson Nelson made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Nelson was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jax Lowery, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games he's played dating back to last season. Landon Golden was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Chipley beat Jay 6-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Royals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
