Even though the Cairo Syrupmakers have not done well against the Bainbridge Bearcats recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Cairo managed a 61-56 victory over Bainbridge. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Cairo was led to victory by Amari Powell and Keshen Spence. Powell scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Spence scored 28 points. Powell continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jykortnee Brown, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Several Bearcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aj Grant, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Cam Sanders was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Cairo has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. As for Bainbridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cairo won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Spencer at 4:30 p.m. on January 20th. One thing working in Spencer's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Bainbridge, they will be playing at home against Thomas County Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Thomas County Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 287th, while Bainbridge is ranked 140th).
