The Cypress Ranch Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Waller Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cypress Ranch's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over Cypress Park. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.
Cypress Park's batters probably weren't too happy with Layla Gallardo, who pitched a no hitter and racked up seven Ks (she gave up a single walk).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Naomi Walker, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Brooke Crowl also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Waller). They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over Cypress Lakes on Tuesday. The victory was nothing new for the Bulldogs as they're now sitting on four straight.
MaKenzie Dillon made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Avery Jameson was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Isabella Gonzales, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Waller kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.2.
Cypress Ranch pushed their record up to 14-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Waller, their record now sits at 7-14.
Cypress Ranch came out on top in a nail-biter against Waller in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 5-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
