Cimarron-Memorial extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 3-12. They came up short against the Western Warriors, falling 10-1. The Spartans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Warriors earlier this season, when they won 6-3.
Andrew Jaramillo was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits.
At the plate, Cimarron-Memorial saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joseph Piccio, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. Camden Bojorquez also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
As for Western, the win got them back to even at 7-7. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.
On Western's side, Edgar Garcia made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Garcia has posted since back in February. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Western: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 3-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, Leonel Gonzalez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gio Urena, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Cimarron-Memorial will look to defend their home field on Monday against Doral Academy Red Rock at 3:30 p.m. The Spartans will need to watch out since the Dragons have now posted at least ten runs in their last five contests. As for Western, they will head out to challenge Rancho at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
