On Friday, things were looking good for The Polk County Wildcats after they put the first points on the board, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They had to suffer through a rough 40-12 loss at the hands of York Institute. While losing is never fun, Polk County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 230th, while York Institute is ranked 80th).
Although Polk County took the loss, they still got scores from Matthew Maxwell and Damien McWilliams.
Myles Leffew was his usual excellent self, rushing for 197 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.0 yards per carry, and also throwing for 86 yards and a touchdown while completing 77.8% of his passes. Leffew was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 68 yards. Another player making a difference was Riylin Miller, who rushed for 79 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries.
Polk County has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for York Institute, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Polk County will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Hampton at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Hampton will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for York Institute, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Eagleton College & Career Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
