The Cary Academy Chargers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They suffered a rough 49-27 defeat at the hands of Ravenscroft. While losing is never fun, Cary Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 384th, while Ravenscroft is ranked 116th).
Cary Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mehitabel Surafeal, who scored eight points.
Cary Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Ravenscroft's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ellie Cronin, who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cronin has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Autumn Campbell, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Cary Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Ravenscroft, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cary Academy will take on North Raleigh Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Ravenscroft, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Durham Academy at 6:15 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Durham Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday.
