Softball Recap: Independence Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

The matchup between Independence and Summit on Tuesday hardly resembled the 2-1 effort from their previous meeting. The Eagles put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 19-11 victory. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Reagan Maxon, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Piper Johnson was another key player, going 2-for-5 with four runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Independence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Independence pushed their record up to 16-14 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.4 runs. As for Summit, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Independence will take on Centennial at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Summit, they will face off against Franklin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans will also cruise into their next game with the timing on their side: the Admirals will have lost three straight heading into Thursday's contest.
