I Section III recap September 24, 2013
Skyline extended the longest winning streak in I Section III this week by beating Gilbert, 28-7. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Coyotes.
Red Mountain was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Brophy College Prep. The Mountain Lions came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
Mountain View's dynamic duo of John Clark and Clark Brown proved tough for Perry to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Clark threw for 312 yards and 5 touchdowns and Brown had 153 yards receiving. Robby Millward helped Mountain View's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 96 yards.
The Toros' dynamic duo of Clark and Brown proved to be unstoppable against the Pumas, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Turrell Pietz-Noble was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 227 yards on 22 carries as Mesa bested Perry. Rafael Bellorin also contributed to the rushing game with 38 yards on the ground.
Brown was the best wideout in the league this week as Chad DeGrenier's team defeated Preston Jones' team.
Pietz-Noble was a beast in the backfield as the Jackrabbits defeated Valley Vista.
Kyle Allen was a passing and rushing force as Desert Mountain fell to Chaparral. He completed 17 passes for 283 yards and 3 touchdowns and also ran for 16 yards. Allen's key target this week was Deion Warren, who caught 4 passes for 79 yards.
Clark put up the best numbers through the air as the Toros bested the Pumas.
6-foot-2 quarterback Allen of the Wolves is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,121. He has also thrown 9 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Brown. The Mountain View star has 22 catches for 548 yards.
Desert Ridge took down Millennium 56-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Tarek Morrison threw for 106 yards and ran for 15 yards in the win.
