It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Mt. Zion Prep Academy Warriors ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 60-58 win over Riverdale Baptist. Given Mt. Zion Prep Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Riverdale Baptist is ranked 45th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jniya Weaver was her usual excellent self, scoring 29 points. Londyn Banks was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
When it comes to explaining why Riverdale Baptist lost, one person who can't be blamed is Taylor Timms. Despite the final result, she scored 21 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Timms has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Janiya Ennis, who scored nine points along with six assists and three steals.
Mt. Zion Prep Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a massive bump to their 14-11 record this season. As for Riverdale Baptist, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-19.
Mt. Zion Prep Academy will take on NC GBB Academy National at 9:00 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Zion Prep Academy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 59.2 points per game this season. As for Riverdale Baptist, they will head out on the road to challenge Shabach Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Riverdale Baptist focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Monday.
