The Stevenson Patriots will square off against the New Trier Trevians at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Stevenson fell victim to Lake Zurich and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bears. The shutout was out of character for the Patriots seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in April.
Yuni Hamideh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.
At the plate, Stevenson saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Crawley, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Will Moschea also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, New Trier entered their tilt with Jacobs on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Golden Eagles get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Trevians, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Greg Campitelli tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jake Bentivenga, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Keenan Donaldson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
New Trier pushed their record up to 25-7-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Stevenson, they now have a losing record of 16-17.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Stevenson hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like New Trier struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Stevenson couldn't quite finish off New Trier in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Will the Patriots have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
