Dreyfoos School of the Arts and Morningside Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Dreyfoos School of the Arts Jaguars will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Morningside Academy Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Monday, Dreyfoos School of the Arts was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 51-50 to Boca Raton Christian.
Despite their loss, Dreyfoos School of the Arts saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Nate Goldin, who scored 16 points, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Zidane Guerrier, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Morningside Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 48-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grandview Prep. While losing is never fun, Morningside Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 404th, while Grandview Prep is ranked 197th).
Marvin Tidas put forth a good effort for the losing side as he dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Clark, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
Morningside Academy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Grandview Prep racked up 13 assists.
Dreyfoos School of the Arts' defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Morningside Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 13-8.
Friday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Dreyfoos School of the Arts have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 50.7% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Morningside Academy struggles in that department as they've made 45% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
