The Litchfield/Mt. Olive had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They snuck past Vandalia with a 38-34 victory. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Litchfield/Mt. Olive got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was AJ Sypherd out in front who rushed for 196 yards and a touchdown. Sypherd is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Easton Grammer also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Litchfield/Mt. Olive's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Gillespie and 3-6 Staunton/Bunker Hill (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 33.3% over those games). As for Vandalia, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-3.
Litchfield/Mt. Olive does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Vandalia will head out on the road to face off against Lawrenceville at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
