Softball Recap: Cherokee Wins Going Away Against Hammonton

Cherokee barely beat Hammonton the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Chiefs put the hurt on the Blue Devils with a sharp 11-4 victory on Thursday. The Chiefs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Blue Devils, too.

Allison Cunane spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cherokee got a massive performance out of Chloe Fydk, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Edwards, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Cherokee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .447. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hammonton only posted a batting average of .233.

Cherokee now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Hammonton, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-2 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cherokee will square off against Paul VI at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Hammonton, they will face off against Holy Spirit at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Blue Devils surely won't give up without a fight.
