The Canon City Tigers''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Discovery Canyon, falling 56-28. Canon City was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Discovery Canyon apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
When it comes to explaining why Canon City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Marcus Lipari. Despite the final result, he gained 74 total yards and two touchdowns. Colby Koehn did his part by putting the 'special' in special teams, booting in three field goals.
Jacob Yousif continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Discovery Canyon, rushing for 144 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Yousif is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last five games he's played. Brayden Delany was another key contributor, rushing for 58 yards and a touchdown.
Canon City's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 26.0 points per game. As for Discovery Canyon, the win was the fifth in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canon City will face off against Sand Creek at 6:00 p.m. on October 28th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Sand Creek is ranked 158th, while Canon City is ranked 148th). As for Discovery Canyon, they will head out on the road to face off against Pueblo East at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Pueblo East and Discovery Canyon are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
