The Brownstown Central Braves will square off against the Jeffersonville Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Jeffersonville will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Brownstown Central extended their winning streak to four on Thursday. The Braves came out on top against Corydon Central by a score of 11-6.
Lane Pendleton made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Pendleton was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaxson Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 14 matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Killey, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Brownstown Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Jeffersonville not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15th (when they won 14-2). They put the hurt on Jennings County with a sharp 11-1 win.
Carter Williams spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up seven Ks. Jeffersonville is 3-1 when Williams allows two or fewer earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Braylen Gray and Carter Durbin did most of the damage at the plate: Gray went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Durbin went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. AJ Seifert was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Brownstown Central pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Jeffersonville, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Brownstown Central's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Braves have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Jeffersonville, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Brownstown Central continue to outrun the ball?
